Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM)

The HFCC became an associate member of DRM in 2000. Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) is an international consortium of organisations from across the broadcast industry, who have come together to develop a standard for digital broadcasting in the AM bands below 30 MHz - traditionally the short, medium and long wave bands.

DRM members span all sectors of the industry, and include leading broadcasters, transmitter and receiver manufacturers, research bodies and regulatory groups from around the World.

DRM's aim is to bring affordable, digital, high-quality sound and services to the world radio market that will be successful with both existing and future services operating on other parts of the dial. One of DRM's important objectives is that a receiver bought anywhere in the world will work anywhere in the world.

A milestone in the history of DRM was reached on 4 April 2001: The on-air DRM standard, that was earlier recommended by the Radio Sector of the International Telecommunication Union, gained approval by the members of the ITU.

Powerline Communications (PLC)

A large scale deployment of PLC has a potential to cause heavy interference to radio reception. Consequently, there is a need for protection as required by the International Radio Regulations.
